What is EMF?

What is EMF?

EMF stands for ‘Electromagnetic Field,’ a term often used to encompass all types of low-level non-ionising radiation.

Other terms used interchangeably with EMF include EMR (Electromagnetic Radiation), Electronic Pollution, and Electro-Smog.

 These come in various forms!

“I do not doubt in my mind that, at present, the greatest polluting element in                    the earth’s environment is the proliferation of electromagnetic fields”

Robert O. Becker (1923 − 2008), a researcher from the United States in Electro-medicine and is best known for his research in bio-cybernetics

How does EMF affect our bodies?

Your body is an electromagnetic system – your brain works by processing trillions of electromagnetic signals and regulating very complex biological processes. Information is interpreted and stored electrically and your central nervous system detects and passes tiny electrical signals from the nerves in your sensory organs – skin, tongue, lips, ears, eyes and nose.

Any external disruption of these senses and to the ability to sense these minute electrical signals can affect you hugely physically, mentally and emotionally.

The environment in which most people live is becoming toxic with more and more people are reporting hyper-sensitivity to electromagnetic radiation from simply being able to feel the effects of domestic appliances, nearby radio transmitters and subtle earth energies (Geopathic Stress).

EMFs harm human beings through several mechanisms. Three of these mechanisms include:

1- EMFs can interfere with our voltage-gated calcium channels present on the cell membrane, weakening them and allowing excess calcium to enter the cell. This can result in the formation of free radicals, which can attack our organs and systems, causing harm in many ways

2- EMFs can suppress the production of Melatonin, a crucial hormone with potent antioxidant abilities. This mechanism is associated with a high-risk factor in both the development of breast cancer and Alzheimer’s disease

3- EMFs can disrupt the blood-brain barrier, our natural network designed to keep harmful substances away from the brain

Health Effects of EMF

Some of the effects are mild and short-lived, like headaches, brain fog, itching, dizziness, and heart palpitations.

Others are more serious and persist even in the absence of a direct source of radiation; for example:

1 – Cognitive disturbances and mental health issues such as anxiety, depression, and obsessive-compulsive disorder in adults

2-  Exposure to EMFs has been reported to cause or exacerbate autism and behavioural disorders in children.

3- Weakening of the immune system, which leads to allergic and inflammatory responses, increasing the risk of many diseases and autoimmune conditions.

4- Reduced male and female fertility, accompanied by structural and functional damage to the reproductive system even at exposure levels as low as 3.4 microWatts/m2 , and carries on through generations Cardiovascular effects

5- Development of Electromagnetic Hypersensitivity

Commonly reported EMF sensitivity symptoms

  1. Headaches or head pressure: Frequently described as tension‑type headaches, migraines, or a tight “band” around the head.

  2. Fatigue and low energy: Persistent tiredness, low energy, or feeling “wiped out,” even after sleep.

  3. Sleep problems: Difficulty falling asleep, waking often at night, non‑restorative sleep, or insomnia.

  4. Brain fog and concentration problems: Trouble focusing, memory lapses, slowed thinking, or feeling “mentally cloudy.”

  5. Dizziness or light‑headedness: Feeling off balance, unsteady, or light‑headed, sometimes when near certain devices.

  6. Skin sensations: Tingling, burning, itching, prickling, or warmth of the skin, sometimes on the face or hands near devices.

  7. Mood changes, anxiety, or irritability: Increased anxiety, irritability, low mood, or emotional swings.

  8. Tinnitus (ringing in the ears): Ringing, buzzing, or humming sounds in one or both ears without an external source.

  9. Nausea or “queasy” feeling: Mild nausea, stomach discomfort, or a vague feeling of physical unease.

  10. Appetite or weight changes, hormonal or systemic effects
Some people report changes in appetite or weight,or broader systemic complaints such as hormonal imbalance.

Types of EMF:

1- Man-Made Radiation
Electric Fields

These types of radiation derive from live electrical household wiring l wiring that has voltage on it.

Electric fields typically extend up to 6 feet (2 metres) from their source or even farther. The strength and intensity of electric fields vary based on the voltage level of the wiring and the number of sources producing them.

Unless shielded, all wiring emits this radiation, and electric fields persist on wires even when devices are switched off.

The sources of electric fields we encounter and utilise daily include house hold or commercial wiring circuits, as well as all the devices and equipmentthey power.

Additionally, utility cables, power lines supplying our households, power stations and substations, and distribution lines emit signifi
cant electric fields

Magnetic Fields

Magnetic fields are produced by current flow. Exposure found in homes can vary considerably from one household to another. They most importantly arise from:

  • Imbalances in the electric current flowing through active/hot and neutral wiring due to wiring errors or stray currents
  • The separation of active/hot and neutral cables,
  • Solar panel systems and inverters,
  • Electrical floor heating and
  • Outside sources like power lines and transformers.

Magnetic fields penetrate most materials as if they weren’t present, making shielding ineffective. The use of materials that can shield magnetic fields is costly and, in our experience, typically disappointing in a residential setting. If the source of the magnetic field cannot be mitigated, we need to increase our distance from the source.

Radio Frequency

Also referred to as RF, this exists within the non-ionising band of frequencies, encompassing both radio and microwave radiation levels. Radio waves serve as carriers of information from one location to another through the air.

Wireless communication infrastructures can include cell phones, phone towers,    Wi-Fi routers, Bluetooth devices, radio and television broadcasts, radars, and satellites. RF can travel great distances and penetrate homes.

Wireless Devices inside your “smart” home contribute heavily to the levels of Radio frequency radiation in your space.

There is a huge body of evidence to demonstrate that exposure to man-made Electromagnetic fields can cause adverse health effects on the human body. A plethora of research has linked EMFs to chronic inflammation which, it appears, is a precursor to so many of the modern diseases of civilization.

Dirty Electricity

Dirty electricity is energy that travels along household wires in buildings.

This form of electronic pollution is generated by numerous modern electronic gadgets, appliances, lighting, solar systems and power solutions, LEDs, power line communication devices (PLCs), solar panel inverters, domestic appliances, switch-mode power supplies, and dimmer switches.

It’s essential to note that while the source of dirty electricity may originate within your property, it can also originate from sources beyond the boundaries of your home or workplace.

Dirty Electricity interacts with your body, causing the following health effects:

Headaches – Fatigue – Sleep Disturbances including sweating – Mood Swings – Tinnitus – High blood sugar levels – Cognitive Impairment – Heart Arrhythmia – Mood Swings – Weakening of the nervous, endocrine and immune systems – Increased risk of serious chronic illnesses such as cancer- Possible links with ADHD – like symptoms

2- Natural Radiation
Geopathic stress

Geopathic Stress refers to an excess of natural radiations and vibrations originating from within the Earth.

There are various types of Geopathic Stress, with five widely recognized by both the general public and Geologits: Hartman lines, Curry lines, fault lines, water veins, and ground mixing.

Many cultures recognize that these excess natural radiations can negatively impact health, particularly when it comes to sleeping over them, especially concerning water veins and Curry lines.

Curry and Hartman lines can carry negative emotional imprints, disrupting our mental and emotional well-being. They are also particularly vulnerable to modern electromagnetic pollution. As these lines (walls) traverse the planet, they absorb the energetic signatures of everything they encounter.

When they pass near high-tension power lines or cell phone towers, these energetic signatures become embedded in the lines, introducing an additional layer of harmful energies into our homes and daily lives. Over time, a multitude of electromagnetic frequencies (EMFs) can weaken a healthy body’s natural defenses, making it more susceptible to illnesses, viruses, and diseases.

“I contacted Sammy because after a very healthy life, both my husband and I became ill at the same time.  We wondered if we needed to move house as it, or the area, may no longer be supporting our wellbeing.

After a long trip here, Sammy gave a very knowledgeable running commentary on everything he was doing.  It was fascinating to see how he melded state of the art science and old traditional ways to find trouble spots, and then to remedy them.

We now feel comfortable and safe in our house and won’t be moving.

Sammy is highly professional, systematic, friendly and supportive.  I thoroughly recommend him”.
